Buy in El Tunco
El Tunco is louder and more nightlife-oriented than El Zonte. Better if you want restaurants in walking distance and can tolerate weekend crowds.
La Libertad: coast living without guessing
La Libertad department covers El Sunzal, El Zonte, El Tunco, La Libertad city, and inland towns. “Beach” is not one market — prices, internet, and flood risk change street by street.
Santa Tecla for families and remote workers
Santa Tecla is cooler, greener, and more suburban than central San Salvador. It is where many Americans land first if they want restaurants, schools, and a shorter commute to the capital.
Santa Ana: colonial city, lower prices
Santa Ana is El Salvador’s second city — cathedral, theaters, and a slower pace. It is often the better math for Social Security buyers who do not need a beach premium.
